We observed that people have very different ways to communicate. For us, time together meant conversation together. Ultimately when you spend a certain quantity of time, quality is a natural outcome. We found that our most “intimate” moments were in conversation.
So we decided to write a song about making love—but not in the traditional, physical way, but rather as a way to demonstrate the intimacy that talking together can create. The lyrics are all about the creation of mood through words.
We had quit our jobs in order to build a life, no longer disconnected by the distraction of doing dissimilar activities. This song represented an appropriate “celebration” of sorts since we were no longer just talking about, or imagining such a life. Instead, our conversations were the narration of actually living it.
Lyrics
I want to make love with you today
I want to make love with you in a special way
Take your breath away
With mine, then give it back
Take care, make love, take time
I want to make love with you at dusk
I want to make love with you, I feel I must
Hang on every word you say
Before you speak
Take care, make love, take time
The way things used to be
Were mostly good, but then
Sometimes there was something missing
Although often close we were living separate lives
Then I realized I was missing you
Then I realized you were missing me, too
I want to make love with you tonight
I want to make love with you in a different light
Listen for secrets you leave
Between the lines
Take care, make love, take time
I want to make love with you til dawn
I want to make love with you all night long
Whisper in your ear
And when we are alone
Take care, make love, take time
Take care, take time
The way to love takes time
I want to make love with you
